Scholarship holders are invited to attend an Introduction to Improvisation workshop as part of your NECOM scholarship benefits:
Date: Thursday 15 June, 4:00 – 5:30pm
Pre-Requisites: Grade 6 AMEB, no previous improvisation experience necessary.
Group Size: Max. 10 students
Come along to this workshop with an emphasis on active participation for an introduction to the world of improvisation. You will be led through a range of structured activities to strengthen personal trust with your inner ear and interact creatively with fellow improvisers. We'll concentrate on creative listening exercises, explore ways to develop initial musical ideas, introduce basic musical structures from the world of Jazz and Blues, as well as give you a good introductory overview of the scales, vocabulary and language needed for different musical styles (Eg. Bebop, Modal Jazz, Klezmer, Oriental and Middle Eastern music). You will also receive take-home tools to methodically practise your improvisation skills and integrate creative improvisation into your daily practice routine.
