EMPLOYMENT AT NECOM. The Board seeks to appoint a new CEO in 2021

• RARE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD ONE OF NSW’S MOST SUCCESSFUL AND FINANCIALLY STABLE REGIONAL CONSERVATORIUMS
• REWARDING CULTURAL LEADERSHIP ROLE

The Board of the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM) in Armidale NSW is seeking an experienced and inspirational Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to commence in January 2021 on retirement of the present CEO Susanne James.

The New England Conservatorium’s vision is that a music education and performance tradition embedded in a regional community gives it unique cohesion, economic and social capacity. Its mission is to provide the highest quality and best-practice music education and performance events to the region’s children, schools, young people and adult communities.
As a member of the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums (ANSWRC) NECOM receives triennial funding from the Department of Education to deliver its core music education and community concert programs. NECOM is a very stable and financially secure organisation. With a current administration and teaching staff numbering twenty seven it is one of only four Tier 1 regional conservatoriums and produces in excess of 25,000 estimated teaching and performance hours annually.

The role of CEO is a unique opportunity to lead one of NSW’s most prolific and flourishing regional conservatoriums.

The CEO will be a highly motivated and experienced executive director with a substantial background working within an arts or music education not-for-profit company. The CEO will work closely with the Board and be responsible for the overall strategic management of the organisation.
Working collaboratively with the executive team of the Program Manager and Finance Manager, the CEO will provide leadership of the administrative, financial, HR and general operations of the organisation to facilitate the highest quality delivery of its education and performance programs. The CEO will fulfil the key role of managing marketing and audience development, fundraising development, public concert programs, and community, school and government engagement.

Armidale is the administrative centre of the Northern Tablelands and is renowned for its thriving cultural life and as a hub of education excellence with its schools and the University of New England. It is surrounded by four national parks, has four distinct seasons due to its altitude and offers its residents a beautiful, culturally diverse and friendly regional environment.
NECOM is a unique contributor to the cultural identity of Armidale and the New England and the position of CEO is thus an important appointment not only for NECOM but for the region generally.

An attractive remuneration and support package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
