Science of Sound – School Holiday Program

LEARN HOW TO BUILD (AND PLAY!) A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT OUT OF PVC PIPES
Students conduct experiments in pitch using pipes of different lengths to create a musical instrument.
Participants are given a video of themselves performing music on the completed construction.
Skills learned –
- Measuring pitch through wave-length analysis (on a handheld tablet, provided for the session)
- Construction of a “thongophone” by connecting PVC pipes of differing lengths
- Performance of a group ensemble piece – “Conservatorium Calypso”
Classes run 10am – 12noon Monday October 1st or Tuesday October 2nd (select you preferred day)
Perfect school holiday activity for children aged 10 – 15
NECOM students – $25 for two-hour workshop
Non-NECOM students – $30 for two-hour workshop
Maximum of 20 students per day
