NECOM celebrated the end of the most extraordinary year in its history at the Board’s annual Christmas Drinks on Thursday 3 December. This smaller Covid-safe gathering was NECOM’s first and last community event of 2020 and in spite of inclement weather and Covid restrictions, it was a treat for everyone to meet up once again.
Board Chair Greg Moin took the opportunity to thank all of NECOM’s staff members and donors for their outstanding commitment and contribution to NECOM during this challenging year. Their achievements were extraordinary and NECOM’s success was the result of everyone’s invaluable dedication and collaboration over the months of lockdown and restrictions. The occasion was also the chance for Greg to thank Susanne James who had returned from retirement to take up the Chief Executive Officer position at short notice in July 2019 while the search for a new chief executive was undertaken.
The highlight of the event was a performance by talented students Arlie Bragg (cello) and India Smith (violin), musicians from NECOM’s Chamber Ensemble Program and orchestras. Arlie and India performed a stunning tango followed by a jazz arrangement of Jingle Bells. Thank you to them both for their outstanding performance.
With recent government announcements to ease covid restrictions NECOM is now looking forward to an incredibly exciting and music-filled year in 2021.
