NECOM’s Dixieland Band, The Dixie Six, continues to win audiences over with their infectious brand of traditional jazz music, and presented a great performance on the Armidale Mall stage for the Colour New England street art festival. Having been a headline act at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and then the entertainment at the recent Rotary District Conference, the seven-piece band has put together a wide selection of repertoire ranging from traditional New Orleans style to country and even rock’n’roll (in a jazz style, of course). The group is made up of local musicians with a connection to the Conservatorium, and NECOM’s Woodwind Specialist, Mr Paul Marshall, demonstrated his multi-instrument prowess by improvising on both clarinet and saxophone.
