One of NECOM’s most exciting projects in the year of covid was the innovative Song Writing Workshops for budding young composers. Created by Program Manager Corinne Arter with composer and songwriter Luke Byrne, the workshop covered the essential song writing basics and techniques leading to a final recording session. Open to secondary music students the course was delivered via Zoom with Luke Byrne from his home in Sydney for the five weeks. The final 6th week was a ‘live’ recording session with Luke who was able to fly up from Sydney to meet the songwriters in person.
The course was announced in August with sessions commencing in October and it booked out within 24 hours. A second course was then offered and all the places were snatched up in 6 hours!
Congratulations to the 20 songwriters who participated in these workshops – Luke was very impressed with your musicality and skills. Armidale has many incredibly talented young songwriters with immense music potential and we look forward to creating more projects to help them develop well into the future.
