The annual Armidale Youth Orchestra “Walk Through The Orchestra” was a huge success this year. In conjunction with international “Make Music Day”, 100 preschool and 200 primary school students enjoyed live orchestral music in the NECOM Auditorium. This year, young concert-goers were able to literally walk through the ensemble, with teachers leading them on a procession across the stage so that they could see the AYO musicians up close. Adding to the very interactive nature of the concert, young conductors then lined up to conduct the AYO through performances of Rocky and The Imperial March. The program started and ended with a rendition of the children’s classic, Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes arranged for orchestra by the conductor, Mr Bauer. Armidale Regional Mayor, Mr Simon Murray, who was in attendance for the preschool concert, said that “…seeing the children being involved in music making was a wonderful idea. Many of the children I saw were in awe of the music and the musicians, but then so was I”.
