Letters from Paul
A modern gospel Cantata
16 August 2026
Sharny Russell has written contemporary music for churches and children throughout her career. Letters From Paul is adapted from one of four school musicals she composed more than 30 years ago. After years of dreaming of reimagining these works as choral cantatas, that vision has now become a reality in Armidale, New South Wales.
Now a teacher with the New England Conservatorium, Sharny previously taught at the Queensland Conservatorium and the Jazz Music Institute. Two young singers from the original production of Letters From Paul later became members of the Ten Tenors, with one recently describing the songs as “music that has stayed with me through all my years of singing”.
Featuring choir, children’s chorus, soloists and orchestra, Letters From Paul brings the apostle Paul’s timeless letters to life through inspiring narration and vibrant, contemporary music in a moving musical experience.
