This month we were delighted to have the Jazz Faculty from the ANU School of Music visit Armidale to meet with students. Five lecturers from Canberra delivered a jazz workshop on Wednesday, September 6th, discussing techniques for improvisation and sharing experiences about their own early years of jazz playing. The team then set aside time to meet with local music students to discuss options for Tertiary music study, with several students using the opportunity to audition for a potential place in the 2018 ANU enrolments. The visit concluded with a concert at the Hoskins Centre in the evening, where the large audience was treated to performances of original jazz compositions penned by the lecturers. The professional ensemble gave freely of their time during the interval and after the concert, meeting with members of the Armidale community to talk about their interests and musical background. NECOM thanks Greg Stott and colleagues for including Armidale in their busy circuit, and welcomes continued partnerships with the ANU School of Music.
