Chamber Music in Schools 2019 Report

Students in the following schools have this year had the pleasure of hearing live Chamber Music performances provided by NECOM staff and guests. We thank the school staff for inviting us into their classrooms or school Halls. It has been a great pleasure performing for your students and watching their interested responses. I hope the staff have found the free CD we leave in the school, along with the teaching resources useful. The schools are in order of presentation:

Armidale Secondary College (Year 7)
Glen Innes Primary school
Glen Innes St Josephs school
St Patricks – Walcha
St Josephs – Uralla
Rocky River
PLC Armidale – (K-5, Years 6-8, Elective and Experience day students)
St Marys Armidale
Uralla Central
Kellys Plains

This year we have introduced into our Peter and the Wolf and Carnival of the Animals presentation NECOM Wind teacher and player, James McKay. The presentation is now more authentic as James presents the Bird, Duck, Cat and Grandfather on the appropriate instruments.
I would like to thank the following performers for working with me this year; Joanna Fairs-Wu (Head of Strings NECOM), Robert Jackson (NECOM Cellist), Alice Rickards (courtesy BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra), Sofia Debus (String performer and teacher), and James McKay.

NOW PRESENTING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS:

This year for the first time, the Chamber Music in Schools program was extended to secondary schools, presenting to year 7 students at Armidale Secondary College. The repertoire presented then became the listening program for the rest of the year based on the Chamber Music in Schools teaching resources provided for staff. Bruce Myers from the Music staff had this to say:
This initiative is outstanding and one of which NECOM can be justifiably proud. Repertoire and associated educational resources are exemplary and well-tailored to the age group. The cost of the event is highly accessible, meaning that the program has excellent potential to reach far and wide in the region and beyond. Keep up the good work.

If you would like to book a presentation for your school a date in your 2020 calendar when a Trio may present to your students, please see the information sheet and application form below or contact NECOM on 0267882135.
