NECOM’s Chamber Music in Schools program is a unique, informative and inspiring live musical performance, delivered at your school by local professional musicians and educators from Armidale.
Students have a chance to listen to, meet and interact with the performers during the presentation as they perform on a variety of different instruments. They may even get to join in for a song or two!
The live performance is supplemented with integrated teaching and learning resources, providing teachers with curriculum-aligned lesson plans to complement the live concert. Each performance we deliver at a school incorporates a teacher from that school – this helps to extend student engagement and builds the confidence of teachers to incorporate music in their classrooms.
No school is too big or too small for NECOM’s Chamber Music in Schools program with our performers travelling as far and wide as Hernani, Gilgai, Yarrowich and Mungindi.
If you would like to book in a Chamber Music in Schools performance for your school, please get in touch via NECOM’s website, or by phone. We look forward to hearing from you, and can’t wait to perform at your school soon!
What is Chamber Music in Schools?
For many schools the cost of bringing professional musicians to their school, or transporting their students vast distances to attend concerts, is prohibitive. At a very reasonable cost of $5 per student, NECOM’s Chamber Music in Schools gives many schools and students their only affordable opportunity to meet, see and hear musicians play a variety of instruments (strings, woodwinds and piano) live and up close. With thanks to funding from the Department of Education, ADFAS Armidale and Jean Wilson bequest NECOM is able to send a Trio to those remote schools with very small student populations to ensure that no child misses out.
Over the past couple of years, the Trio performed in schools as far afield as Boggabri, Chandler, Croppa Creek, Dundurrabin, Graves End, Hernani, Toomela, Wee Waa, Yetman, as well as larger centres such as Armidale, Tamworth and Walcha. The Trio also performs in central school locations where other schools can participate or at Music Festivals or Creative Arts Day presented by cluster schools.
