Term 1,2019 has come to such a speedy end! It all began with a late afternoon chamber music concert on Sunday 17 February, showcasing our talented teachers. The concert was a resounding success with part of the proceeds going to the Tingha Fire Appeal. Harking back to the end of 2018 the string teachers, top students, alumni and friends finished off the year with another fabulous concert – the Errol Russell Sinfonia of New England directed by our Head of Strings, Joanna Fairs -Wu. This concert was again well attended and overwhelmingly appreciated by the audience.
The NECOM instrumental teachers have welcomed many new students to the 2019 NECOM community as individual students and/ or members of the many ensembles at NECOM and local school music programs and ensembles. Our instrumental staff visit all up at least nine private and public schools directing 22 ensembles whether it be a classroom instrumental program, chamber ensemble, small ensemble or orchestra. We have the pleasure of working with such enthusiastic students and very supportive and dedicated school music teachers and Heads of Departments.
Various NECOM events have been organised this term in support of our students as they prepare for the Armidale Eisteddfod and AMEB exams notably the usual Scale Parties and Studio Concerts. The wonderful support from families is most evident at the Studio Concerts.
Con Brio, our community adult string orchestra, performed an end of term concert of the pieces learnt over the past 8 weeks and are now looking forward travelling to Tingha on May 4 to perform as part of a Fire Relief Fundraiser Concert.
Good news for our string players! The Sydney String Centre will once again be setting up a pop-up store at NECOM during the entire week of the String Sessions at the Armidale Eisteddfod from 13 May until 18 May. Watch out for further details regarding booking in your instrument for servicing or repairs. There will be accessories, music stands, music etc for sale.
