Introducing Percussion at NECOM

We are delighted to announce that percussion lessons are being offered at the New England Conservatorium of Music from Term One, 2018.

Mallet lessons (xylophone, marimba) will be taught by our new Music Therapist, Fumie Takahashi. Fumie has had ten years’ experience playing in percussion ensembles in Japan and is also an accomplished steel-drum player. Students who have learned piano are often perfectly-suited to playing mallet instruments.

David Van Tongeren will be available through NECOM as a Snare and Drum Kit specialist. David can provide in-depth lessons in reading and writing of drum and percussion notation in any style of music ranging from AMEB snare drum syllabus to jazz and funk through to pop and rock.

If you would like more information about learning Percussion through NECOM, please contact Nicky on 6788 2135 or email admin@necom.org.au to register your interest. In terms of producing skilled all-round percussionists, it may even be possible for students to alternate between mallet lessons one week and snare drum lessons the next.

Percussion students will soon have an ensemble of their own when NECOM announces the formation of a Percussion Ensemble. We will be looking for approximately twelve students to rehearse one afternoon each week, playing instruments ranging from xylophone and marimba to snare drum, drum bass and timpani. If you are keen to be considered for this exciting new ensemble, register your interest now on 6788 2135 or email admin@necom.org.au.
