NECOM Chamber Players Concert

Congratulations to the fourteen musicians from the staff at NECOM who performed on the afternoon for a very appreciative audience.

The inaugural Marian Barford Award was presented at the concert to three deserving young musicians: Will Mackson, Madison Sim and Emily Thompson. Will, Madi and Emily were chosen for their outstanding achievements on their instruments plus their contribution to their school and community ensembles.

Will Mackson:

I’ll be using the scholarship from the Marian-Barford award to pay accompanists for my HSC ensemble performances, as well as pay for any opportunities I am offered to have lessons and classes with pianists across Australia.
As I finish Year 12 I’m planning to continue my music studies at university and possibly pursue a career in music.

Madison Sim:

I will be using the scholarship funds, along with the money I have been saving, to purchase a good quality violin.

For the future, I do not have any certain plans at the moment. I am hoping to go to University and pursue my music career, wherever it may take me.

Emily Thompson:

I am so grateful and honoured to be one of the recipients of this generous award. I have many fond memories of Marian conducting me in NECOM beginner string ensembles ever since I started learning violin. My dream is to study music beyond school and I hope to use my award by either putting it towards lessons in capital cities or upgrading my violin.
