Opera Australia’s Carmen Postponed

Dear NECOM music supporters

It is with much regret that I write to inform you that Opera Australia has postponed its touring production of Carmen this year due to the impact of COVID-19.

We are very disappointed that our presentation of Carmen on Thursday 13 August at Lazenby Hall is therefore cancelled – we will contact our ticket holders who have already booked for Carmen in the next few days.

We are in negotiation with OA to confirm a replacement date in 2021 so the good news is that we won’t miss it altogether as Carmen will come to Armidale next year.

The COVID-19 crisis has had a catastrophic impact on the livelihoods of musicians, singers and the combined performing arts industries across Australia. As with many regional conservatoriums, we have had to postpone many programs and cancel all our performance events up to September (at this stage) so this has had an impact on teachers and musicians at this local level as well.

We hope that by next year we will all be able to attend a live concert again and together, we can ensure the success and security of our performing arts sector long into the future.
