The annual Armidale Youth Orchestra “Walk Through The Orchestra” was a huge success this year. In conjunction with international “Make Music Day”, over 400 school students from all over the region enjoyed live orchestral music in the NECOM Auditorium. Following on from 2018, young concert-goers were again able to literally walk through the ensemble, with teachers leading them on a procession across the stage so that they could see the AYO musicians up close. The excited audience listened to pieces including Warrior Legacy, George of the Jungle, and short excerpts from several well known and instantly recognisable orchestral pieces. Adding to the very interactive nature of the concert, young conductors then lined up to conduct the AYO through performances of The Can-Can. AYO’s conductor, Paul Marshall, said “It was great to play for such an enthusiastic and receptive audience. The event is a wonderful opportunity to introduce many children to what is their first interaction with a live orchestra”.
